Rules and usage
"Be going to" is the most common way to talk about the future in English. It shows that a future action is planned, decided, or about to happen soon.
When We Use "Be Going To"
- We use "be going to" for plans and intentions made before the moment of speaking. Example: I am going to visit my grandmother next weekend.
- We use it when we can see something will happen very soon, usually because we see evidence or signs now. Example: It is going to rain. Look at those dark clouds!
- We use it for decisions made before now, not decisions made at the moment of speaking. Example: We are going to move to a new house next month. This was decided yesterday.
- It expresses certainty or strong belief about something in the future. Example: You are going to love this film.
